New This Week! Teacher
Leadership Teams
We are clarifying the roles of our teacher leadership teams.
In Secondary school the Homeroom Teachers will be referred to as “Grade Level
Leaders”. Part of their role is to facilitate communication and coordinate with
all teachers teaching that grade level class. This also will distinguish
between the Primary Homeroom teachers and Secondary, because they play
different roles. We now have weekly meetings to facilitate this.
Primary Homeroom teacher Leadership Meeting Tues afternoon
2:00, Mr. Patrick’s office
Secondary Grade Level Leaders Meeting Friday 4:15 Mr.
Patrick’s office
New This Week! Two emergency
lesson plans
In order to help support each other and the students, all
Secondary teachers are required to leave 2 emergency lesson plans per class
with the Grade Level Leader (Homeroom Teacher), and Primary teachers in their
room with the TA.
·
Use the template being shared to fill in lesson
plan
·
Create two for each of your classes
·
Print
·
Hand to Grade Level Leader by next Monday, Oct
18
·
If you are sick and use one, replace it within
the week
This should be revision, extension or skill work. It is not
expected to match the part of the syllabus you are on right now.
This is one more thing that will make it easier for other
teachers, help us all work together, and benefit the students.
Grade level leaders and Homeroom teachers, establish a place
where these are kept. Have it labeled and easy to see, with a big sign and
arrows. “Emergency Lesson Plans Here!”
New
Schedule
This
week we are starting with a new and improved schedule. It has some more
specific information about:
- room numbers
- teacher
names and TA names
- Assigned
lunch and Breakfast for Homeroom Teachers and Grade level leaders
- new
supervised 'Seminar' time for grade 10 and 11 who have no scheduled course
- Some new
courses to enrich our students
- some of our
new teacher arrivals.
To be
transparent, there are still some changes that will be made with languages in a
week, but other than that this is our penultimate improvement.
Please
do give a good look to be sure not to miss a change in timings. Be sure we are
all using the timetable named "Teachers Cam Oct 8"
Do Now:
The Do Now is a non-negotiable expectation for grades 6-11
·
It needs to be ready immediately at the start
of class, students should walk through the door and see it
·
The teachers first job at the start of class
is to get all students working immediatly
·
Open ended questions work well as there is no
wrong answer, so students can’t say ‘I don’t know’
·
They should require minimal explanation or
instruction. “See and DO”
·
3-5 minutes, no longer than 10
·
Teachers use the time to sort their work,
technology, attendance, check students have pens and books ready etc.
·
Grade 6-8 done in the class journal. 9-11 in
their subject copy book
Class Dismissal is another non- negotiable expectation.
There is a yellow paper on each teacher’s desk in the secondary
school. Use it as a guide, or use it
word for word. In no case should a teacher leave the room without making sure
the students have wrapped up the material, books ,etc., for that lesson and straightened
out the desks and area
·
Grade
6-8 must leave the room between classes
·
The teacher should be the last one out of the
room, then close the door
·
Be sure to leave time at the end for the exit
ticket, and the packing up materials.
These two things, the Do Now and Dismissal, will make it easier
for other teachers. When you do this, you are supporting your colleagues and
making life better for everyone!
