period 1 class
Be Sure all students use the hand sanitizer on the way in.
Line them up and watch each student to be sure they did it. Check Masks!
Take the first 15 minutes to discuss the following
1.
Introduce the school mission that is posted on
the wall. You can have them select the phrase they think is most important,
much like we did, and share.
2.
Introduce the Student Profiles
3.
Introduce the Code of behavior poster. These are
some main points from the code of
behavior hand book
4.
Introduce the bell times poster. IMPORTANT.
Grade 6-8 and 9-11 Lunch times. We cannot fit all students in at the same time.
5. Introduce and share the student's schedules. Post on bulletin board etc
Lesson Expectations: DO NOW and OBJECTIVES
The First Class routine each
lesson is to be sure all students use the hand sanitizer by the door on their
way in. Teachers must explicitly tell the students this and explicitly enforce
it!
Two expectations for lessons are the use of “DO NOW”
activities in the first 3-5 minutes of class are always posted and communicated the
same way, and Lesson Objectives are always posted the same way. I will continue to
share information about this. Here is a link to Harvard University’s
School of education on Do nows.
Elementary: Do now can be at the start of the day and after any
breaks
Secondary: Do Now will be at the start of each class.
One simple do now that will only take three minutes,
especially useful in secondary, is to have the lesson objective posted, and
have the students copy the date, class and lesson objective into their notes,
and open up any text book or materials to the proper pages. This can lead to a
good “Wrap up” exit ticket by having the students write a short summary of what
they did in class to meet the objectives in the last five minutes.
Cafeteria times
Grade 6-8 goes to cafeteria at 12:45
Grades 9-11 goes at 12:10
Some Points to
mention in parent teacher meetings
There are new things in school this year to share with
parents
·
New Electronic White Boards in all rooms
·
Renovated Cafeterias
·
Renovated restrooms
·
Outside renovation
Health. Students should use the hand sanitizer by the door
of each room each time they enter. Of course masks will be worn
Parents were surveyed about the start of school and over 70%
agreed to opening on Sept 15. The School is starting in person.
After school activities start Oct 1. More information will
be coming
PE class will be continuing
Cafeteria timings. Due to the size of our student growth, we
cannot fit all the students in at the same time. So Grade 6-8 goes to cafeteria
at 12:45 Grades 9-11 goes at 12:10
The Class timing schedule can be shared, make clear when the
school hours are.
First day, students will meet outside at 8:30 and can take
photos by the school banner
Individual meetings:
I am continuing with individual meetings with all members of staff. This will only have to be 10 minutes long. I want to be sure I have a chance to meet everyone, and find out what I can do to support you. I plan on meeting about a few people a day, and will send out an email the day before the meeting inviting you. So again, be sure to read your email. It is a tall order to try to meet everyone over a 2 week period. Please be on time when you are invited.
In the meeting we will discuss such things as: “How do you want to be seen as a teacher?”, “What can I expect to see when I visit your class”, “What do you need/ what can I do to help you?”.
